Artist statement: These beasties are friendly and

| #6537 - Dispersion |

68 in x 78 in |
Winner of $1,000.00 for Outstanding
Art Quilt
Sponsored by P & B Textiles
Entered by Carol Taylor (Pittsford, NY)
Made by Carol Taylor
Started in 2004, Finished in 2004
Artist statement: The dictionary define "dispersion"
as the separation of white or compound light into
its respective colors as in the formation of a full
spectrum by a prism. This piece portrays this same
dissemination of small, medium and large "confetti"
particles radiating in all directions. With the three
columns juxtaposed to prove that opposites attract,
the values in the middle mix both horizontally and
vertically scattering their light in all directions.
The circular quilting further defines the dispersion
idea. |

- Innovative Wall Pieced
Sponsored by Free Spirit Fabrics
Entered by Carol Taylor (Pittsford, NY)
Made by Carol Taylor
Started in 2004, Finished in 2004

in rayon threads echoes the blocks and lines, and
also mimics the miniaturized technology that helps
us interconnect to create the social fabric of our
lives. |

Winner of Judges Choice - Dixie
Sponsored by Road to California
Entered by Grace J Errea (Laguna Niguel, CA)
Made by Grace Errea
Started in 2004, Finished in 2005
Artist statement: This quilt is machine appliqué
but depending on the effect desired, there is both
turn-edge as well as raw-edge appliqué. To enhance
the "stones" in the wall and give them height,
each is stuffed with batting. The wisteria flowers
are created from multiple layers of silk and metallic
fabrics fused together. A warm, cozy house, lots of
flowers perfuming the air, an open door that beckons
you in...can you not smell dinner on the table? Come
on in! "Mi casa es su casa." |
