Learn the basic for building a Fusible Flower quilt. The class works from the NEW Rose pattern. You will learn the steps of developing a flower art quilt by how color works to make a flower look real, how to use the fusible and lay out of design. I encourage creativity while assisting those who may feel timid about color and design. All skill levels can master these flowers and make them their own. The students will get 80% of their flower done in class. Next, Melinda will demo her “Renegade Thread Play”, which is a simple method of free-motion quilting (don’t get nervous, she’ll break it down into simple steps.) This beginners’ class is for those of you who are either frustrated with your own photography efforts to capture the beauty and color of your quilts/ textiles or for those who are thinking about starting to photograph your work. While it will be helpful to have some knowledge of your own Point & Shoot and/or SLR camera, we will cover camera basics (exposure, aperture, shutter speed, ISO settings, etc.). We will cover photographing your quilt and textiles both inside and outside using natural light and “studio” lights as well as how to process your raw, Tiff and JPEG files for print and web. This class is designed to help the beginner photographer create more consistent and efficient results in their photography efforts.
Supply List: We recommend you bring to class your camera (with fully charged batteries and memory cards), your camera’s owner’s manual, a tripod if you have one and a laptop if you have a recent version of Photoshop, Lightroom, Photoshop Elements or Aperture loaded in your computer.

Our chipper little cardinal shown sitting on a sprig of holly is done on a 10” block and can be used with others of his kind or will hold his own nicely on a pillow. The bird is made easier by building him off the background on lightweight interfacing. Learn how to make those sharp points and smooth gentle curves that make a design look professional.

Description-This is an all day marking class that will result in a large wholecloth, which is entirely marked by the student and is ready for trapunto, hand quilting, or machine quilting by the end of the class. This class is for anyone who would like to design an original wholecloth from scratch. Karen will have many wholecloth quilts in a trunk show as well as a small lecture on the history of wholecloth. All stencils are provided by instructor for student use in class.
