Shadow quilting, netting and more – there are fast ways to make a Crazy quilt, even including embellishments and stitching! Come explore the possibilities in this new take on the modern Crazy – but it still remembers its antique ancestors, too. We’ll explore a variety of ways to construct a Crazy patchwork background, including fusibles and machine work. We’ll also explore stitching possibilities, including the “Road Warrior” method, and quick and easy color and pattern tricks for a graphic, interesting Crazy of your own. Plan to leave with your own Crazy well along the way to completion.

Many of us are self-taught which means some of the basics just fell through the cracks! Learn the fastest, easiest and most fun ways to sew traditional blocks! This “Hints from Heloise” type class will teach you all of the tricks that the experts have been using for years – and some I’ve made up! In class, the blocks will be precut so we can start sewing immediately!

3007 – The Great Gluestick/Screwdriver Caper $70

Appliqué from the Hardware Store.
This is a class to learn the basic method using gluesticks and screwdrivers to turn and prepare edges for appliqué.

We will create the whole design before we stitch it down to give us more control and precision. We will learn about making fine points and inward curves as well as how to make easy bias strips that is worth the whole class time! Taking this class first gives the student advantages and a head start for other appliqué classes. The pattern is a lovely red Camellia in a bowl.

3008 – Yes, You Can Stipple! $80

This is a beginners’ class for learning basic free-motion machine quilting techniques on their own home machine. Students will learn how to properly adjust tension on their own machine for perfect stitching. Please have machines in clean, working order with a fresh needle installed. Machines must have free-motion quilting ability.

All of the basics of “Appliqué the Easy Way”™ will be discussed and demonstrated. Cathy will also explain how to make animals look realistic with special embellishment techniques. Students will begin working on one of the 14” blocks, “Bunny in the Violets”, from Cathy’s new “A Walk in the Garden” Quilt pattern.

3010 – An Artful Vase of Flowers $70

Because in this class you will use NO PATTERNS, there are two especially fun things that you will learn. You’ll add to your repertoire. 1) A fun, easy scrap background that you can use for many different kinds of quilts, and 2) the freedom to cut natural elements for your work WITHOUT having to use patterns. As an extra incentive, in this class you’ll use up oodles of those scraps that you’ve been saving for who-knows-what! No two students’ work will be alike. That’s the art of it! At the end of this class, students will be taught the easiest way ever to turn their piece into a pillow without SEWING ON BUTTONS OR MAKING A PLACKET!!!

This is a fun one. Mary Lou will teach you how to make funky and fun blocks a new way (by machine). After making a series of three blocks you will put together this fun wall hanging and your friends will say “how’d you do that”? This quilt stretches tradition and makes you smile when you see the results!

This quilt is fun, easy and quick once you understand the technique. It makes a wonderful quilt for your wall, gift for a friend and a darling baby quilt, too. Prepare to have fun and learn new tricks for blocks.

Smiling and laughter is a part of this experience too.

3014 – Beautiful Beginnings to Fabulous Feathers $100

Have you always wanted to learn how to sew feathers freehand? Do you cringe when a customer asks you to do a feather in a border? Have you been quilting feathers freehand but wish you had some more creative ideas when it comes to feathers on quilts? Do the feathers you quilt now fall below your expectations? If so, this class is for you! This class will take the student through all the steps necessary to be fearless with those feathers. Using some time-tested techniques and tricks, Linda will help take the fear out of feathers.
