Students will get to participate in 2 of the aspects, the marking and the “cut away”, further enhancing their understanding of the process.

English Paper Piecing (EPP) is a traditional hand piecing technique used to fold fabric around paper templates and then to baste them together to create a consistent sized shape which are then sewn together like puzzle pieces to create intricate designs that can be used as appliques or quilts. Michele will discuss a variety of EPP geometric shapes and sizes; different ways to baste the shapes; and several ways to sew the shapes together. EPP is a HOT topic in the quilting world these days as it is a precise, portable and meditative technique that is FUN and stress free! A power point presentation along with a trunk show will hopefully inspire those to learn more about EPP!

However, many of us struggle with fitting our (or our kid's) favorite things into traditional sewing patterns and techniques. In this lecture, we will explore ways to marry traditional quilting and sewing techniques with a modern aesthetic. You’ll be part of the audience as Eleanor tapes one of her shows where she demonstrates her techniques to make quilt construction fun, fast, and easy! She always offers some specials to her audience so shopping is in order!

After lunch we’re off for a behind-the-scenes tour at Quilters Paradise where they produce most of the pre-fused, laser cut kits that you’ve learned to love! You’ll have time to shop some of the many products that theyprovide to quilt shops around the country.

As we return to Ontario, we’ll stop in Temecula to visit Primitive Gatherings. This is a wonderful shop that has something for everyone – wool kits and wool to add to your stash, primitive fabrics, reproductions, and a wide selection of bright, contemporary-to-modern fabrics. If you’re familiar with Primitive Gatherings at the show, imagine that booth x 10!

Note that Admission to the Eleanor Burns show, lunch and all gratuities are included in the price of the tour. Depart from Ontario Convention Center: 7:45 a.m. (note the earlier departure time)

Today we’re off to explore the Coachella Valley – Palm Springs, Palm Desert and more. The “snow birds”that abound this time of year have promised to share the hidden charms of the Coachella Valley.

Upon arrival in Palm Springs a local step-on guide will join us to offer a glimpse into Palm Springs today and yesterday. We will travel through the beautiful city of Palm Springs, California, and learn history and facts about the playground of the stars. Your entertaining guide will drive through the famous neighborhood of Las Palmas, regale you with stories and play a fun and often hilarious game of "Guess The Stars Homes." This area is comprised of all custom homes and boasts an amazing collection of fascinating architecture including the popular mid-century modern homes in such great demand today. During our tour we will see ~50 homes – some of them once belonged to Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley (2 homes in Palm Springs), Kirk Douglas, Leonardo DiCaprio, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Marilyn Monroe and more!

After our driving tour you’ll have time for a scatter lunch in downtown Palm Springs. Then we’re off to the Living Desert and Zoo in Palm Desert. Explore the expansive zoo and gardens via a Safari Tram. One could spend the day here, but today we’ll give you just a glimpse of the beauty of the Southwest deserts.

And, last but not least, we’ll stop at Monica’s Beads and Creations in Palm Desert. It’s a fabulous quilt store with beads! The selection of fabrics and patterns is extensive. You’ll surely find something here that simply must go home with you!

Roadies Give Back is our outreach event Saturday January 26 2019 at 6:00pm, we are asking all our Roadies to join together on a labor of love; a Saturday evening sew-a-thon! We need people to help with all areas of the quilts – piecing, quilting, binding and so on. We will donate $5 from each paid participant to the Robert and Beverly Lewis Cancer Care Center.

Using Jenny Doan’s X’s and O’s pattern – we are asking Roadies to join together and create quilts for cancer patients.

Teaming up with the Robert and Beverly Lewis Cancer Care Center, we are asking Roadies to make as many blocks as they can. The Robert and Beverly Lewis Cancer Care Center has between 800-900 new cancer patients. The center prides itself on providing personal care and state-of-the-art technology. Road also has a connection to the center – Matt’s mother Shellee is the Administrative Director of the Cancer Program.
