In this class we will be using a variety of Applique Techniques to make this wall hanging. Our focus will be finished edges and stitched by hand. We will explore a variety of ways to finish edges using freezer paper and starch, inter-faced lining wash away applique and needle turn applique. Learn the applique stitch so it will be invisible. We will also learn to make a perfect center circle and stitching by hand.

Come join in the fun and learn how to piece a triangle block layout quilt. This project features stars, pinwheels and diamonds, but don’t let that scare you. You will learn how to piece two blocks and these two blocks are what make the whole quilt. Learn to strip piece and an easy way to cut from templates. By learning a few new techniques you will have mastered this quilt. There are no “Y” seams. You can do it.

Come meet Cheddar & Stars, a vintage quilt that successfully combines those iconic colors and makes for a memorable quilt design. You may choose to replicate the look of the vintage quilt with black-and-white stars separated by triple-line sashing and Nine Patch blocks or try the contemporary version in which the stars, bars, and Nine Patches have grown into equal-size blocks. Both versions given in class.

Whether making just a pillow top or an entire quilt, Loopy Tulips is a fun project to introduce you to the joys of handwork. We will focus on the basic aspects of appliqué: stems, inside and outside points, and gentle curves using the freezer-paper-on-the-bottom method of appliqué. We will also explore color placement as a way to add a secondary level of design.

Recreate your own dazzling kaleidoscope with glass beads. Numerous design options will be presented as you explore Nancy’s elevated beading techniques. The kaleidoscope is created with elevated seed bead lines that do not rest on the fabric, but are supported above the fabric surface by other beads. Hence the name of the technique, elevated beading. The finished 3D kaleidoscope is 5-inches in diameter. The techniques covered in this workshop will give you new ideas for adding sparkling beaded texture to your art quilts. Some prior beading experience is helpful.

A combination of lecture, samples, and hands-on practice of basic binding techniques to ensure that this finishing touch is correctly and securely attached to your quilt. Also demonstrated and student practiced will be a glue-basted and heat-set completely machine stitched binding method. After mastering these basics binding moves, we’ll go beyond basic on to conquer an inset flange, corded piping, embroidery stem stitching, and beading wrapping to add fascinating interest to your quilt edges. The judging criteria of bindings and edge finished will be explained and demonstrated.

Description: This is a FUN and fast-paced class for beginners intimidated by the thought of machine quilting. Through a series of lessons using specific fabric and batting 'sandwiches' – each created to build your confidence – you'll be able to say "Yes, I Can Stipple!" and a whole lot more! Students will learn how to find their own rhythm. We'll discusses thread types, tension, and burying thread ends. One Sweet Sixteen sit-down longarm per student! The techniques used can be applied to your own domestic home machine.
