Contest Rules |
Rules for All Sections:
1. Any one may enter a quilt or wearable art by submitting the following for each entry:
The entry form (photocopies accepted)
A nonrefundable entry fee of $10 per entry, and a
Appropriate slides. (see below)
2. If accepted, slides and photographs become the property of Road to California for publicity and/or publication.
3. All entries must be constructed and quilted by the person(s) named on the entry form. No kits are allowed.
4. Entries displayed in previous Road to California shows are ineligible for entry.
5. A written description of 25 words or less must be submitted for use by the jury committee.
6. Entries must have been finished on or after Jan. 1, 2000 and be in excellent condition.
7. Slides will be reviewed by a jury committee.
8. The jury committee reserves the right to eliminate any category in which fewer than 5 entries have been submitted .
9. The jury committee reserves the right to move an entry to another category if strong indicators show it would be more fairly judged in that category.
10. Road to California reserves the right not to accept an entry if the quality or condition does not meet standards upon hands on inspection.
11. Entry deadline is October 1, 2001. The entry packet must be received by this date. Please allow time for mail service.
12. Acceptance letters will be mailed December 1, 2001. All decisions of the jury and judges will be final.
13. Road to California only provides insurance on entries once they have been received. If an entry exceeds $500 in value, it must be accompanied by a certified appraisal.
Additional Rules for Quilt Section:
14Q. Please submit 2 color slides (one full view, one close up) and 1 photograph. (full view)
15Q. The technique categories will be appliquééd, pieced, mixed and other.
16Q. Quilts that are both pieced and appliquééd should be entered under the mixed category.
17Q. Other includes: whole cloth, batik, stenciled, stamped, hand painted, embroidery, crazy, soft or raw edge appliquéé, pleated, etc. Tying is allowed where artistically indicated and not the means for securing the layers together. Exception: crazy quilts.
18Q. Size Categories will be:
Miniature - No side longer than 18 , maximum perimeter is 72 ;
Wall - Shortest side is longer than 18 and a maximum perimeter of 284 ;
Large - Shortest side longer than 71 , longest side must not be longer than 120 , maximum perimeter is 480
Additional Rules for Wearable Section:
14W. Please submit 3 color slides (one full view front, one full view back and one close up).
15W. Slides will be reviewed by a jury committee who will select garments on the basis of originality and creativity, execution and craftsmanship, color and design, and viewer appeal.
16W. Awards will be given in the following areas: Best Embellishment; Best Fabric Manipulation and Best Jacket/Vest.
Note: Prize Monies will be awarded to the person who signs the entry form.
