It was on our bucket list and the\u00a0timing\u00a0was right to also include a visit to Seattle to welcome a new grandson as well as see our son who has spent his summer working out of Fairbanks driving those big coach \u00a0buses for cruise line passenger excursions. \u00a0It was a magnificent adventure, with each stop along the way providing opportunities to explore the\u00a0quaint\u00a0towns and their history.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/you-can-find-a-quilt-shop-anywhere\/attachment\/alaska-3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1148\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1148\" alt=\"alaska-3\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/alaska-3.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">It was especially fun to discover the quilt shops at our ports of call. Each stop had their own quilt specialty store near the docks that reflected the area they were in. The shops looked like any other quilt store in the lower 48. Except those stores also featured Alaskan themed fabrics that you could only find up there: Alaskan wild life, weather-predicting fire weed, and the northern lights. \u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/you-can-find-a-quilt-shop-anywhere\/attachment\/alaska-23\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1150\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1150\" alt=\"alaska-23\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/alaska-23.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I made it a point to visit each store and talk to the owners.<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/you-can-find-a-quilt-shop-anywhere\/attachment\/alaska-22\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1149\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1149\" alt=\"alaska-22\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/alaska-22.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Ketchikan<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/you-can-find-a-quilt-shop-anywhere\/attachment\/quilt-alaska4\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1146\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-1146\" alt=\"quilt Alaska4\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/quilt-Alaska4-1024x764.jpg\" width=\"645\" height=\"482\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Anchorage\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/you-can-find-a-quilt-shop-anywhere\/attachment\/quilt-alaska1\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1145\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-1145\" alt=\"quilt Alaska1\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/quilt-Alaska1-1024x676.jpg\" width=\"614\" height=\"406\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Skagway<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"line-height: 19px;\">I couldn&#8217;t help but ask if they had heard of <\/span><i style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">Road to California. <\/i><span style=\"line-height: 19px;\">Much to my delight, most had. In fact, the owner of the store in Skagway said it was on her bucket list to attend some day.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 19px;\">\u00a0Of course I extended an invitation to come in 2014!!!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">While also in Skagway, we ventured in to the local history museum. They had a display of a patchwork quilt made entirely of \u00a0beaver pelts.
