Thankfully, Kathy and Bubba decided to go down a different path: \u00a0creating a home-based, handbag pattern studio\/business known as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.studiokatdesigns.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">StudioKat Designs<\/a>.<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/handbags-are-so-in-meet-2015-vendor-studiokat-designs\/attachment\/studiokat-logo\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2954\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2954\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/StudioKat-logo.png\" alt=\"StudioKat logo\" width=\"400\" height=\"241\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">After working 30 years doing lab work for a sewage plant in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Kathy was looking for something different to do in retirement; something she could really enjoy and something she could do staying in her pajamas! \u201cI have had a lifelong obsession with handbags and I knew what I liked,\u201d remarked Kathy. \u201cI found I could fill a niche that other people hadn\u2019t been able to do: cater to people who want a real good alternative to an expensive bag.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/handbags-are-so-in-meet-2015-vendor-studiokat-designs\/attachment\/_i4c8233\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2952\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-2952\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/I4C8233.jpg\" alt=\"_I4C8233\" width=\"612\" height=\"479\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">StudioKat Designs enjoys their online presence. In addition to their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.studiokatdesigns.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">web site<\/a>, they have a large following with their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/StudioKat-Designs\/125300959908\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/instagram.com\/studiokatdesigns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Instagram <\/a>accounts. On their web site, they sell handbag patterns as well as zippers and notions because they had a hard time finding good bag notions. Kathy says, \u201cIt was the best thing we did.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/handbags-are-so-in-meet-2015-vendor-studiokat-designs\/attachment\/_i4c8242\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2951\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-2951\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/I4C8242.jpg\" alt=\"_I4C8242\" width=\"642\" height=\"455\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">What is their biggest seller? Their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.studiokatdesigns.com\/which-purse-insert-is-best-for-you\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">purse insert line.<\/a> They began offering this pattern in 2007. Why does Kathy think it is so popular? \u201cIt\u2019s a great way to organize \u2018stuff\u2019 and can be transferred between handbags.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/handbags-are-so-in-meet-2015-vendor-studiokat-designs\/attachment\/studiokat-designs1\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2953\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-2953\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/StudioKat-Designs1.jpg\" alt=\"StudioKat Designs1\" width=\"354\" height=\"264\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.studiokatdesigns.com\/showtime-in-california\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Road 2015 was StudioKat Designs first time as a vendor<\/a>. In fact, it was Bubba\u2019s first time in California!!! Kathy and Bubba said they were \u201cexcited\u201d to be at Road to California. \u201cWe don\u2019t do many shows.
