{"id":3337,"date":"2015-07-21T12:28:15","date_gmt":"2015-07-21T19:28:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.road2cablog.com\/?p=3337"},"modified":"2015-07-21T12:28:15","modified_gmt":"2015-07-21T19:28:15","slug":"modern-quilts-for-charity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/2015\/07\/21\/modern-quilts-for-charity\/","title":{"rendered":"Modern Quilts for Charity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<![CDATA[\n\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>The Modern Quilt Guild will have a special exhibit, <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/themodernquiltguild.wordpress.com\/2015\/06\/18\/catch-the-quiltcon-traveling-exhibit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Best of QuiltCon 2015<\/a><em>, at Road 2016.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/themodernquiltguild.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Modern Quilt Guild<\/a> is a thriving online community of modern quilters. The founding guild was formed in Los Angeles in 2009 and has grown to over 125 guilds around the world with members in 6 continents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last August, the MQG offered a challenge to its members: the <strong>QuiltCon Charity Quilt Challenge.<\/strong> This challenge required participating Modern Quilt Guilds to work collaboratively to create quilts using a predetermined color palette and alternate grid work design. Quilts could utilize blocks of different sizes and additional negative space plus any other creative ideas. \u00a0Finished quilts were then donated by the guilds to local charities benefitting children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The official rules also included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n\n<li>Guilds had to complete a quilt using the predetermined color palette of white, light gray, chartreuse, burnt orange, sky blue, cerise and a deep turquoise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The quilt had to use alternate grid work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A pattern could be used provided the guilds got permission from the pattern designer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A guild\u2019s members provided the blocks for their quilt as well as all the necessary batting, backing, binding and additional fabric to complete the quilt top.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The finished quilts could be no smaller than 68\u201dx 88\u201d and not greater than 72\u201d x 92\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quilting could be no farther apart than 2\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Machine sewn binding was allowed.<\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Pictures of the finished guild quilts, along with their story on how they were created, began appearing on the MQG\u2019s blog last spring.
