and on Saturday, 6703C Vintage Compass\"\"<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\nJacqueline Kunkel, her husband, and her two \u201cwonderful Quilt Inspector Kitties,\u201d recently completed a cross country move from Connecticut to Mesa, Arizona. Why the move? Jacqueline had been coming to the valley since her grandparents moved there in 1970.\u00a0 Jacqueline and her husband had been going to Arizona for about 30 years. \u00a0She has lots of family there (Mom and Dad, Cousins, Aunt and Uncle), so \u00a0they have developed a love for the desert and Arizona.\"\"<\/a>\nJacqueline blames her husband for her start in quilting. When she was pregnant with their first child, he suggested that Jacqueline get a hobby.\u00a0 At the time, she was a garment sewer and heavy into making baby clothes for their newborn.\u00a0 She took a formal quilting class, at her husband\u2019s urging, and hated it.\u00a0 She says it was probably because of the format in which it was taught: cutting cardboard templates with scissors.\u00a0 No rotary cutters, mats and rulers.\u00a0 Eventually, Jacqueline took another class that had all those things and she\u201d was hooked!!!\u201d\u00a0 That was in 1993 and it has been her hobby turned business ever since then.\"\"<\/a>\nWhen Jacqueline is not quilting, she and her husband \u201cLOVE\u201d to hike, walk, explore, and fly (Jacqueline\u2019s husband has his own little plane).\u00a0 They fly almost every day as the Arizona weather \u201cis just sunny and gorgeous.\u201d\nWhat is the one quilting tool that Jacqueline can\u2019t live without? Her glue pen. \u00a0Jacqueline says, \u201cI use it essentially in place of pins.\u00a0 It allows my fabric to lay flat and I can handle it with ease.\u00a0 From paper piecing to appliqu\u00e9, to binding, there really isn\u2019t anything you can\u2019t use it on.\u201d\nWhen it comes to teaching, Jacqueline absolutely adores \u201cseeing my students creating and then seeing the finished projects.\u00a0 I also love helping them through the process.\u00a0 It is very rewarding.\u201d She hopes that her students walk away with more than one new tip or technique\u201d that they can apply to their quilting in general.\u00a0\"\"<\/a>\nJacqueline\u2019s best quilting tip is that she does not use steam in her iron.<\/strong> She always uses a dry iron as she has found over the years that steam will stretch the fabric which results in a block not fitting properly or not being square.\nIn September, 2015, Jacqueline published a new book, Splash of Color:\u00a0 A Rainbow of Brilliant Black and White Quilts.\"\"<\/a><\/em>\nJacqueline says that \u201cIt was born out of a desire to write about something that I love\u2026 black, white, and bright fabrics.
