While Levonne has been 5 times, Road 2017 was Angela\u2019s second visit. Levonne has been quilting for 15 years. Both her mother and sister were quilters. When her mother passed away, Levonne\u2019s daughter asked, \u201cWho is going to make quilts for us?\u201d so Lenore decided to take over. Her first quilt was for a grandson. She enjoys traditional, piece quilting and has recently gotten in to machine embroidery.<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/grandmothers-granddaughters-and-quilting\/attachment\/01b8bfdb29bd513de2b19e0346f24204fa522dd8ad\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4845\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-4845\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/01b8bfdb29bd513de2b19e0346f24204fa522dd8ad-620x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"401\" height=\"662\" \/><\/a>\nLevonne signed up Angela for sewing classes and Angela thought they were \u201creally fun.\u201d In her classes, Angela has made a purse, pin cushion, neck pillows, and a skirt. Angela grew up watching her grandmother quilting. Since she was three, she would sit on Levonne\u2019s lap and watch. Angela started quilting on her own 2 years ago. Her first quilt was queen size!! She has her own Brother machine and will inherit her grandmother\u2019s Brother embroidery machine one day. Angela is currently interested in longarm quilting and has been practicing. Her dream is to own a Gammill machine one day. When <a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/longarm\/meet-road-2016-platinum-sponsor-gammill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gammill<\/a>, Road&#8217;s Platinum Sponsor, heard this, they invited Angela to spend some time with their machines in their booth. She brought her 9 year old granddaughter, Siri, who lives in Montana. Rachel\u2019s grandmother was a quilter and when she passed away, Rachel \u201ctook up quilting in earnest.\u201d That was 38 years ago. Rachel\u2019s daughters all sew and now she hopes to pass on her love of quilting to Siri. As Rachel says, \u201cTraditions are important.\u201d Siri is just learning to sew from her mother. She has made pillowcases and has donated them to the <a href=\"http:\/\/beachcitiesquilters.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Beach Cities Quilters Guild<\/a>. Siri\u2019s favorite quilt on display at the show featured a cat. <a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/grandmothers-granddaughters-and-quilting\/attachment\/018f752f9366bb45b805dbd0b9e1044d7dbfc23a9d\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4847\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-4847\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/018f752f9366bb45b805dbd0b9e1044d7dbfc23a9d-724x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"403\" height=\"570\" \/><\/a>Faith, age 8, is the great-granddaughter of Annie who has been quilting since 2005 when a co-worker invited her to take a quilting class with the Downey Adult School. Annie now takes classes every Friday at Pico Rivera\u2019s Rio Hondo Park. \u00a0Annie quilts \u201cany pattern I can put together,\u201d and particularly enjoys <a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/are-you-an-eleanor-burnsquilt-in-a-day-fan-too\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Quilt in a Day by Eleanor Burns<\/a>. After watching her \u201cNanny\u201d make a quilt, Faith asked her if she could make one. Annie cut out 5 inch squares and Faith sewed them together, making her first quilt for her baby sister.
