This innovative Modern Quilter and founder of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themodernquiltguild.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Modern Quilt Guild<\/a>, presented a <a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/classes\/meet-latifah-saafir-modern-quilting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lecture and Trunk Show<\/a>\u00a0to kick off Road 2017.\u00a0Her special presentation was held Tuesday evening,\u00a0 January 17th at the Ontario Museum of History and Art in conjunction with the exhibit being held there, <em>Modern Quilts Redesigning Traditions.\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/special-exhibit-modern-quilts-redesigning-traditions\/attachment\/jpgmqrtlogo_final-300x244-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4614\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4614\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/jpgMQRTLogo_FINAL-300x244-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"244\" \/><\/a>\nHow did Latifah Saafir Studios LLC begin? After Latifah was laid off from her technology job with a Fortune 500 company, she decided to \u201ctry my hand at doing something I truly loved.\u201d Already having a ton of contacts in the modern quilt world, Latifah added the resources received from a Kickstarter campaign two years ago to help her launch her product line. Latifah remembers it was a whole lot of work but she wouldn\u2019t have \u201cgiven up for anything in the world.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/meet-road-2018-vendor-and-special-exhibit-curator-latifah-saafir\/attachment\/lss\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5349\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5349\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/lss.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"413\" height=\"413\" \/><\/a>\nA Los Angeles resident, Latifah and her husband help take care of her 96 year old grandfather. Latifah spends most days building her quilting business. When she does have some free time, she likes to slip out to her guild meetings and hang out with her guild friends.<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/meet-road-2018-vendor-and-special-exhibit-curator-latifah-saafir\/attachment\/latifah-saafir-photo-cropped\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5352\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5352\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Latifah-Saafir-Photo-cropped-832x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"381\" height=\"469\" \/><\/a>\nWhat does Latifah like about being a new business owner? <strong><em>Creativity<\/em><\/strong>. Latifah loves creating products that help people tap into their own beauty and creativity.<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/meet-road-2018-vendor-and-special-exhibit-curator-latifah-saafir\/attachment\/indah-rainbow-glam-clam-vertical\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5351\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5351\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Indah-Rainbow-Glam-Clam-vertical-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"386\" height=\"515\" \/><\/a>\nMeeting and seeing people is what Latifah is most looking forward to at Road 2018.<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/meet-road-2018-vendor-and-special-exhibit-curator-latifah-saafir\/attachment\/lss-quilt-market-photo\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5353\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5353\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/LSS-Quilt-Market-Photo-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"401\" height=\"401\" \/><\/a>\nIn her booth, new and classic Latifah Saafir Studios patterns will be featured as well as her Hoffman fabric line. Latifah will also be demonstrating her \u201cClammy templates,\u201d showing guests how easy it is to cut and sew all kinds of curved shapes.<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/meet-road-2018-vendor-and-special-exhibit-curator-latifah-saafir\/attachment\/clammygroup-cropped\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5350\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5350\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Clammygroup-cropped-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"331\" height=\"331\" \/><\/a>\nLatifah is also curating the Special Exhibit,\u00a0<em>Expanding Tradition, <\/em>which will be<em>\u00a0<\/em>located at 713\/717 during Road 2018.
