Not only is it an honor to be asked, the guild also sets the tone, welcoming the thousands of visitors to the show.<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/vendors\/up-up-and-away-with-modern-quilts\/attachment\/344a0320\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5765\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-5765\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/344A0320-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"417\" \/><\/a>\nAt Road 2018, the Long Beach Modern Quilt Guild created the beautiful quilt exhibit that rose above everyone&#8217;s heads as they entered the venue.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/vendors\/up-up-and-away-with-modern-quilts\/attachment\/344a2409\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5763\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-5763\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/344A2409-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"417\" \/><\/a>\nThe Long Beach Modern Quilt Guild was established\u00a0in January, 2015 to bring together individuals who are passionate about modern quilting. Their goal is to inspire, educate and develop friendships and they continually strive to use their love of quilting to bridge the needs of our community. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/vendors\/up-up-and-away-with-modern-quilts\/attachment\/344a0027\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5764\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-5764\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/344A0027-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"937\" \/><\/a>\nGuild Members were active participants with this year&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Quilts from the Ashes<\/em>, the initiative created to support the Ventura Modern Quilt Guild&#8217;s efforts in supplying quilts to the survivor&#8217;s of the\u00a0 devastating Thomas Fire in Ventura County, California.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/vendors\/up-up-and-away-with-modern-quilts\/attachment\/600x600_from_the_ashesjpg\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5760\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-5760\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/600x600_from_the_ashesjpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"423\" height=\"423\" \/><\/a>\nAnother philanthropy the guild supports is\u00a0the <em>Memory Pillow<\/em> program. On the one year anniversary of the passing of a child, the guild makes a memory pillow which is customized to that child and which the hospital presents to the surviving family members.\u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/vendors\/up-up-and-away-with-modern-quilts\/attachment\/memory-pillow-collage-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5766\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5766\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Memory-Pillow-Collage-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"319\" \/><\/a>\u00a0The Long Beach Modern Quilt Guild is also a member of the worldwide Modern Quilt Guild, founded in 2009 as an online community of modern quilters by one of Road 2018&#8217;s vendors, Latifah Saafir.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/road-2018-vendor-and-special-exhibit-curator-latifah-saafir\/attachment\/latifah-saafir-photo-cropped\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5352\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-5352\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Latifah-Saafir-Photo-cropped-832x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"361\" height=\"445\" \/><\/a>\nRoad 2018 was Latifah&#8217;s first time hosting a retail booth for her Latifah Saafir Studios. She really enjoyed being in front of customers and putting faces to names.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/road-2018-vendor-and-special-exhibit-curator-latifah-saafir\/attachment\/lss\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5349\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-5349\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/lss.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"401\" height=\"401\" \/><\/a>\nLatifah also hosted a Special Exhibit,\u00a0 <em>Expanding Traditions.\u00a0<\/em>One of the quilts included in the exhibit was Latifah&#8217;s first free motion quilt. Because it was her first quilt, there were a lot of mistakes.
