{"id":620,"date":"2013-03-25T07:32:35","date_gmt":"2013-03-25T14:32:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.road2cablog.com\/?p=620"},"modified":"2013-03-25T07:32:35","modified_gmt":"2013-03-25T14:32:35","slug":"meet-natalie-barnes-of-beyond-the-reef","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/2013\/03\/25\/meet-natalie-barnes-of-beyond-the-reef\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet Natalie Barnes of &quot;Beyond the Reef&quot;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<![CDATA[\n\n<p>What do you think of when you hear the words, \u201cbeyond the reef?\u201d If they conjure up visions of a laid back, peaceful, relaxing beach setting, then\u00a0you&#8217;ve\u00a0entered the world of designer, Natalie Barnes.<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/meet-natalie-barnes-of-beyond-the-reef\/attachment\/vendors__i4c6030\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-622\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-622\" alt=\"vendors__i4c6030\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/vendors__i4c6030.jpg\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Natalie, a former corporate commercial interior designer, started quilting in the 70\u2019s as a way to win boys\u2019 hearts in high school. She got started in pattern designing in 1994 when she went on a three week vacation to the north shore of Hawaii to visit a friend. During her stay, she put together a kit for her and her friend to make, utilizing Hawaiian fabrics. Another friend saw what they had made and asked Natalie for the pattern. And so her new career began. She worked part time on her own design work until 2008 when she went full time; marketing <i>Beyond the Reef<\/i> as a platform for her lectures, quilt show booths, teaching, and book writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Natalie embraces the challenge of staying in step with the changing force of quilting, especially with the modern quilt movement. She is \u201cbig\u201d in to social media as a means to share her work.\u00a0 As Natalie puts it, \u201cI love what I do so it is easy to share.\u201d What does she like best about what she does? The people she meets. \u201cI love seeing everyone, their creativity and being a part of the quilting community.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/meet-natalie-barnes-of-beyond-the-reef\/attachment\/vendors__i4c6020\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-621\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-621\" alt=\"vendors__i4c6020\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/vendors__i4c6020.jpg\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Natalie is involved in the beach area where she lives and works. When she isn\u2019t designing, Natalie is a puppy sitter for <i>Guide Dogs of America. <\/i>Her dog, \u201cBuddy,\u201d is a good beach dog and companion. Natalie also enjoys spending time in her raised bed garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>What does Natalie see for her future? She is excited to work with more fabric companies and publishers, providing more access to her brand.
