You\u2019re not alone.\nRob Appell shared that, \u201cWe all over complicate.\u201d He suggested the next time\nyou don\u2019t know where to start in making fabric choices, ask yourself, \u201cIf there\nwas a fire, what would I take?\u201d Line up your choices and always start with your\nfavorite fabric and have that be at the center of your quilt. Next pick your\nfavorite light fabric, then your favorite dark fabric and continue until you\nhave all the fabric you need. Your least liked fabrics can be used for the\nborders as borders aren\u2019t the focus of your quilt. Trust your favorites to\nguide your fabric choices. <\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/RA9-e1552666058346.jpg\" alt=\"Quick Quilt Tips Road to California Quilt Show\" class=\"wp-image-6483\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Straight\nStitching <\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rob is the\nfirst to admit that he is a \u201cdude who makes a lot of quilts and breaks a lot of\nrules\u201d For one, he sews his quilts from the top down.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding\nhis best quick quilt tips for perfecting straight stitching when sewing strips,\nis to simply <em>Go Slow. <\/em>When he first\nstarted quilting, Rob did the opposite and sewed fast and learned his lesson. It allows you to let go of your work and make the last 3-5 stitches\ncount, keeping a quarter inch seam. Did you know that Rob also makes handmade\ntools like his stiletto\/seam ripper duo?<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/RA5.jpg\" alt=\"Quick Quilt Tips Road to California Quilt Show\" class=\"wp-image-6485\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another\nquick quilt tip is to put the heaviest fabric strip on the feed dogs as it will\ncarry the lighter fabrics through. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Iron Piece\nby Piece<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lay your\nfabric flat on your ironing surface. Set the seam first by holding the iron for\na few seconds on the seam.
