{"id":664,"date":"2013-04-10T10:27:36","date_gmt":"2013-04-10T17:27:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.road2cablog.com\/?p=664"},"modified":"2013-04-10T10:27:36","modified_gmt":"2013-04-10T17:27:36","slug":"get-to-know-sierra-mountain-quilters-association","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/2013\/04\/10\/get-to-know-sierra-mountain-quilters-association\/","title":{"rendered":"Get to Know: Sierra Mountain Quilters Association"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<![CDATA[\n\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">What could be better than encouraging the friendship, fun, and learning of quilting in one of the most beautiful locations in California?\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/road-to-california\/get-to-know-sierra-mountain-quilters-association\/attachment\/smqa\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-665\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-665\" alt=\"SMQA\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/SMQA.png\" width=\"175\" height=\"135\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sierramountainquilters.org\/\">The Sierra Mountain Quilters Association<\/a> (SMQA) is just that lucky. Located south of Yosemite National Park near Bass Lake in Madera County, the association boasts 120 members and runs a quilt shop in town, encouraging its members and local quilt fans to shop local.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Supporting families in difficult circumstances is the hallmark of SMQA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>They make quilts that are presented once a year to children of inmates at the local women\u2019s prison. They also put together\u00a0<em>Hand-print\u00a0Quilts<\/em> for the Children\u2019s Hospital of Central California. Each of these patchwork quilts includes a blank, 17 inch, bordered square in the middle of each quilt. When a child passes away at the hospital, the association places a hand or foot print of the child in the center of the blank square, and presents the memorial quilt to the parent of the deceased child. Such a wonderful act of service and compassion for those grieving parents.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Each May, SMQA hosts a quilt show when the nearby waterfalls are at their peak and before the summer tourists invade Yosemite.
