This family is all about encouraging young quilters as they each support and guide Angela with her quilt making. The first quilt Angela made, she entered it in Road\u2019s young quilters contest at the show. Named \u201cRainbows over Clouds,\u201d Angela made it from scratch, taking over 6 months to make.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/YQ5-e1565726767550.jpg\" alt=\"Encouraging Young Quilters\" class=\"wp-image-6707\" srcset=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/YQ5-e1565726767550.jpg 480w, https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/YQ5-e1565726767550-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> Each month, she would go to her grandmother Levonne\u2019s house to work on it. Laurie said that Angela enjoyed \u201cevery facet of the process\u201d and was so dedicated. \u201cIt all came from her.\u201d \u00a0Stella was \u201cvery impressed\u201d with the \u201cpatience\u201d her granddaughter showed for being so young. Levonne shared that it was \u2018thrilling\u201d for her to pass on the love of quilting to Angela as she becomes her family\u2019s <strong>fourth generation quilter<\/strong>. Angela is looking forward to trying paper piecing and applique for her next project. Road to California 2019 was her first time at the show and she was \u201camazed\u201d at seeing firsthand how Road is encouraging young quilters. She attended the show with her grandmother, Ruthanna, from Fresno, California. Ruthanna started Mikayla sewing by helping her make doll clothes. She noticed that Mikayla had a lot of \u201ctalent\u201d with sewing and knew she needed to \u201ckeep her focused\u201d by introducing her to quilting. They enjoyed getting new inspiration at the show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/YQ3-e1565727040564.jpg\" alt=\"Encouraging Young Quilters\" class=\"wp-image-6709\" width=\"384\" height=\"512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/YQ3-e1565727040564.jpg 480w, https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/YQ3-e1565727040564-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 384px) 100vw, 384px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trinity (17) and Tyanna (13) are sisters who have a famous quilting cousin, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Latifah Saafar (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/2017\/02\/01\/meet-latifah-saafir-modern-quilting\/\" target=\"_blank\">Latifah Saafar<\/a>. They credit Latifah for inspiring them to start sewing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/YQ2-e1565727157927.jpg\" alt=\"Encouraging Young Quilters\" class=\"wp-image-6710\" width=\"319\" height=\"425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/YQ2-e1565727157927.jpg 480w, https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/YQ2-e1565727157927-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 319px) 100vw, 319px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The girls came to Road 2019 to see Latifah\u2019s booth and quickly saw how \u201ceveryone is so nice and welcoming\u201d at the show, encouraging young quilters. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/YQ4.jpg\" alt=\"Encouraging Young Quilters\" class=\"wp-image-6711\" width=\"498\" height=\"374\" srcset=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/YQ4.jpg 640w, https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/YQ4-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 498px) 100vw, 498px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ava (11) and Melanie (13) come from a quilting family. Their mom, Julie, made her first quilt along with her mom (the girl\u2019s grandma), Claudia. Julie said she hand quilted that entire quilt. Melanie is currently working on a quilt, a kit she got from one of Road\u2019s vendors, <a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/2017\/06\/09\/meet-road-vendor-pineapple-fabrics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Pineapple Fabrics (opens in a new tab)\">Pineapple Fabrics<\/a>. Ava said that she has been coming to Road since her mom was pregnant with her!!! She was looking to start her first quilt and appreciated all the ideas and encouragement she found at the show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you have\na young quilter you can bring to Road to California 2020?
