When she moved to Newark, Ohio\nbecause of a job transfer, a quilt shop had just opened, and she immediately\nsigned up for classes. She also writes a column on notions for the trade publication &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/fabshopnet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"FabShop News (opens in a new tab)\">FabShop News<\/a>.\u00a0 This assignment gives her the opportunity to try out all the new gadgets and notions before they hit the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pieced\nAppliqu\u00e9\u2122<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Penny Haren\nhas been developing and teaching techniques that make it quick, easy and fun\nfor quilters \u2014even beginners\u2014to create intricate blocks with stunning results.\nShe is best known for her innovative, Pieced Appliqu\u00e9\u2122 technique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pieced\nAppliqu\u00e9\u2122, eliminates inset points and curves from even the most complicated\nblocks. Since the introduction of Pieced Appliqu\u00e9 in 2008, Penny has been in\ndemand for teaching and workshops around the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Penny\u2019s\nWorkspace<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Penny lives\nalone but has a big family that could no longer fit around her dining room\ntable. So, she turned her dining room into her sewing room. When asked what her favorite quilting tool is, Penny replied, \u201cCreative Grids rulers of course!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Penny has designed\nher own line of Creative Grids\u00ae rulers. Her favorite rulers are her \u201cSquare It\nUp and Fussy Cut\u201d rulers that help save time and make quilting even easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Penny-Haren3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7109\" width=\"363\" height=\"363\" srcset=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Penny-Haren3.png 600w, https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Penny-Haren3-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Penny-Haren3-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 363px) 100vw, 363px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Teaching at\nRoad to California<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Road to\nCalifornia is Penny\u2019s favorite show because she has discovered that \u201ceducated\nquilters return year after year and appreciate good design.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A teacher\nfor over 40 years, Penny loves \u201cseeing that light come on in a student\u2019s eyes\nwhen they \u201cget it!\u201d She hopes her students at Road will gain \u201cself-confidence\u201d\nin her classes.&nbsp; \u201cI love seeing their self-esteem\ngrow as they learn and conquer new techniques.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In both of\nPenny\u2019s classes, <strong>all rulers and fabrics are provided<\/strong> so that students can\nmake four to five different blocks \u2013 and learn additional techniques \u2013 in a fun\nenvironment.
