{"id":832,"date":"2013-05-24T06:00:45","date_gmt":"2013-05-24T13:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.road2cablog.com\/?p=832"},"modified":"2013-05-24T06:00:45","modified_gmt":"2013-05-24T13:00:45","slug":"meet-2013-featured-artist-arlene-stamper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/2013\/05\/24\/meet-2013-featured-artist-arlene-stamper\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet 2013 Featured Artist: Arlene Stamper"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<![CDATA[\n\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">If Arlene Stamper\u2019s quilt designs haven\u2019t won you over yet, then her warm smile and kind demeanor certainly will.<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=834\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-834\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-834\" alt=\"featured_artist__i4c6613\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/featured_artist__i4c6613.jpg\" width=\"614\" height=\"481\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Honored as this year\u2019s Featured Artist, Arlene is best known for perfecting \u201cblock of the month\u201d quilt patterns. Since 1999, Arlene has created two complete block quilts a year. There are now 24 quilt designs available to purchase through her business, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.quiltcompany.com\/\"><em>T<\/em><\/a><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.quiltcompany.com\/\">he Quilt Company<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>that she runs with her daughter, Melissa.<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=833\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-833\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-833\" alt=\"featured_artist__i4c6608\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/featured_artist__i4c6608.jpg\" width=\"626\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Before starting <em>The Quilt Company<\/em>, Arlene was a quilt teacher. Beginning in 1980, she and her students participated in \u201cSwap-A-Block.\u201d Each month, students worked on their own quilt block design based on a chosen theme such as birds, barns, and flowers. Then at the class, everyone would bring their one dozen finished quilt blocks (which included their individual signatures) and swapped them with their fellow classmates. The result? Uniquely crafted friendship quilts that were collaboratively designed. Through the years, her Fallbrook, California group has had 47 such exchanges.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">In addition to the quilt blocks, Arlene is also known for teaching the Double Wedding Ring design. She patented a technique to make it easier to put together this challenging quilt.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Arlene\u2019s exhibit at Road paralleled her career, showing many of the quilt block quilts she spearheaded. \u201cBeing at Road was like returning home,\u201d commented Arlene. She was able to visit with former students and reminisce about past classes. She felt like her \u201cCareer had come full circle,\u201d and so enjoyed the reunion she was having.<a href=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=835\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-835\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-835\" alt=\"featured_artist__i4c6617\" src=\"https:\/\/road2ca.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/featured_artist__i4c6617.jpg\" width=\"685\" height=\"434\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">A big smile that invites quilters to create and share their unique work.
