We Love The Boy Scouts (Happy Boy Scout Day)

On February 8, 1910, Chicago publisher William Dickson Boyce filed incorporation papers in the District of Columbia to create the Boy Scouts of America. Every year on this date, troops around the country celebrate their birthday.  At Road to California, we especially want to give a birthday shout out to the “official” Boy Scout Troop of our show,  Troop 628, a member of the California Inland Empire Council and chartered through Water of Life Church in Fontana, California.

The Reese family has a long history with this troop. Carolyn’s son Mike was an Assistant Scout Master. His son, Matt Reese, (Show Manager for Road to California), went all the way through the troop, eventually earning the Eagle Rank.

The Boy Scout motto is “Do a good turn daily.”  For the past 11 years, Troop 628 has been doing this for Road by offering patrons assistance with their belongings. For a suggested donation of just $2.00 per bag, attendees are able to leave whatever they want at the scout station. And for just 25 cents per visit, patrons are welcome to take their belongings in and out of the secured area. These prices have remained the same for the entire eleven years. And of course, tips are always welcomed._i4c4045_copy

What do these scouts think about their service at Road?

For identical twins and brand new members to Troop 628, Brandon and Brian Rivera, they enjoyed walking the halls, talking to the guests, and advertising about the Sack Sitter Service._i4c3927_copy

Otto, a Life Scout and Freshman at Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga, shared that this was his second year working at Road. He said, “It feels nice to help out. We know we are appreciated.

Emmanuel is a 10th grader attending International Poly High School located on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona. He currently holds the rank of Star and is a soon to be Life Scout. Emmanuel said, “People are always friendly. I have good conversations with them. Road has a nice atmosphere.”

David, who is working towards his Eagle Scout rank, commented, “All the ladies are really nice and helpful.” This was also David’s second year offering his time. He is a 9th grader who attends Etiwanda High School in Rancho Cucamonga.

Where do the monies go that the troop earns while serving at Road? Funds go toward the boys’ camp fees. All of the boys are planning to attend summer camp at Catalina Island this summer.

Thank you Troop 628 for providing a great service at Road.
