2018 Registration Information

Monday, June 26th, 2017

read this post for the walk-through on registering for classes. Our software has largely remained the same since that post was written. The purpose of this post is to give you some helpful hints and tips to work around some of the limitations of our system, as well as discuss some common problems our attendees encounter.

Registering a Friend?

The most common problem we see is when an attendee is attempting to register for a class for more than one person. Our system will only allow one Registration Fee per account. All classes (numbers starting from 1-7) require the registration fee. Even if you want a Wednesday class, and your friend wants a Thursday class, you must register under separate accounts as each individual who signs up for a class must pay the Registration fee. There is no way around this – you must register each individual under a separate account. You may, however, purchase lecture or event seats in multiples. Class numbers starting in 8 and 9, do not require registration. When you drag the event into your schedule, click on 1 and select the number of seats you would like to purchase. Please note: if you want to include the registration fee with your lectures and events, you must register each person under their own account.

Class Full?

We routinely get questions about what to do if the class you really want is sold out. First, we highly recommend the waiting lists. We only charge you if you get into the class, which means the waiting list is free. We get asked what the fill rate is off the waiting list. This question is a misnomer. The waiting list is used when either (1) someone cancels, or (2) we move classrooms to give a teacher more space. We have also left a few spaces open in the schedule to repeat classes which have a long waiting list. If this is the case, you will be contacted about the new session prior to us opening the class to the public. Please note: we do not permit an individual to be enrolled in a class and on a waiting list for a class occurring on the same day.

Problems During Registration

Although it is rare, sometimes problems do come up during online registration. Here are a few helpful hints to get you through the process:
 1. If you log on and do not get an error message, refresh your browser and start again. If you do not know how to refresh your browser, it is simple – for windows it is command – R and on Mac OS it is Command – R.
 2. If you clicked register and nothing happened, look to see whether you received a pop-up error message. We require your address with phone number and country (even if you’re in the USA). You may have to scroll up to see the error message.
 3. We will have someone monitoring the system and checking emails on Saturday morning between 8 AM and 10 AM. If you get into a jam – email is the best way to contact us. Just shoot an email to info@roadtocalifornia.com and someone will get back to you. We will not be answering the phones.
 4. Please do not use an iPad, iPhone, tablet or smart phone to register. Our system was not designed to the use of touch devices and may not work.
 5. Test your account login by going to https://online.roadtocalifornia.com to make sure your login works before registration starts.
One last thing – we heard a lot of your feedback regarding the choice of bag for 2017. We apologize to those of you who were not satisfied with the bag choice for our registered class attendees. For 2018 we will have a fresh, new canvas bag with a special surprise. This bag will be much larger – and will be able to contain all the goodies you buy at the vendor mall. In summary – we are so excited for our class line up this year. We hope you are too! As always, if you have any questions, please send us an email at info@roadtocalifornia.com. Photos by Brian Roberts.]]>

Registering for 2018 Classes: A Refresher

Friday, June 26th, 2015

Registration for Road to California 2018 begins Saturday, July 8th at 8:00 a.m. PDT

Our online registration is fully automated. To make sure you are prepared for a positive experience, we are once again providing this online registration information. Please familiarize yourself with the steps below. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at info@roadtocalifornia.com.

Before you begin, please review the class lists and faculty information on our website. We are confident there are classes available to match all skill levels and interests.

Before July 8th, first make sure your internet browser plays nicely with others. Our system does not work well with Internet Explorer and some versions of Mozilla Firefox. Google Chrome and Apple Safari play really nice with others, and have been tested and verified to work on our system. Unfortunately, we have not been able to optimize our website for touch devices (including iPads & iPhones.) On the same note, you should also make sure prior to online registration that you have installed updates for your internet browser. This is very important to your own personal internet security and will enhance your experience with our online registration program. There is a great how-to article on updating your internet browser on the web that you can find here Now that we are done with computer housekeeping, lets move onto the Second Step, logging on. Open that fancy new updated internet browser and navigate to: https://online.roadtocalifornia.com. You should see a photo of our beautiful San Gabriel Mountains kissed with snow and the Road to California logo. If you have taken classes in the past, use the same email address and password and skip ahead.Blog 1 If you forgot your password, don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Click on Forgot Password. A yellow box should appear (See Photo Below). Fill out all the required information and click change password. Hint: Your new password needs to be 8 characters long and include a capital letter and a number. Blog 2 If you don’t remember your email address, send us an email to: info@roadtocalifornia.com. We will be happy to assist you with your online account. In your email, please include your name, email address and mailing address. We will use that information to find your account and email you a new password. If you have not taken a class at Road before, click on the blue create an account link. The following page should appear. Fill out all required fields and click create. Again, your password needs to be 8 characters long and include a capital letter and a number.Blog 3You should now be logged in! On July 8th at 8:00 AM PDT you can move your mouse to ROAD2018 and click on Register! Once you’ve clicked on Register, you will see the following screen. Make sure if you wish to purchase cancellation insurance, you drag over the Cancellation Insurance selection. Simply Click, Drag into your calendar and Release when the calendar turns red. Blog 5 Change the drop down from Miscellaneous Items to the date of the class you wish to register for. Here we have chosen Friday, and want to take Dancing Dots with Nancy Mahoney.Blog 6 Simply Click down on Dancing Dots and Drag the Dancing Dots block over to the calendar (the calendar will turn red) and Release.Blog 7 Let’s say you also want to take a Sunday class (gotta leave Thursday and Saturday to do some serious shopping in the vendor mall). Being a big fan of stars, you want to take Sparkle Star with Donna Thomas.Blog 8 Click down on Sparkle Star, Drag it over to the calendar and Release. The calendar turns red when you have dragged the class to the proper location. Release when the calendar is red to enroll. Blog 9 What if you change your mind and instead of taking a Friday class, you’d rather take a multi-day class? To remove the Friday class, simply Click on the class under Events/Classes to be Purchased, Drag it out of the calendar and Release.Blog 10 Multi-Day classes are sorted by the first day they begin. For example, you would love to take a class with Rob Appell, and he happens to be teaching a Three Day Seascape/Landscape Extravaganza starting on Monday! Click on class 1302R, Drag it into the calendar, and Release when the calendar turns red! Blog 11

Please note: We have made a change to our cancellation policy; we will no longer be offering cancellation insurance. Starting in 2016, Road to California’s cancellation policy will offer everyone a refund based off both the date they registered as well as the proximity to the show. Please go to our website for more information and to see a chart that explains our cancellation deadlines. .

Once you’ve verified that you’ve got all your classes, it’s time to pay and check out! Fill out your credit card information, and verify the contact information we have on file. Once your registration is final, our cancellation policy takes effect, so make sure to read it carefully when classes are posted online! Blog 12 Click Register, and you will be redirected to a page with a confirmation of your registration. You will also receive an email with this information confirming your class enrollment. Take note of the cancellation policy found on the bottom of your confirmation. We do not grant exceptions for cancellation hardships. Please take special care to remember the dates for cancellation. That’s it! Don’t forget: Class registration begins on July 8th at 8 AM PDT! We can’t wait to see you in January!]]>
